Gemini pricing UK plans compared

Quick answer: Gemini pricing UK (September 2026) is £0 for Gemini Free, £4.49 a month for Google AI Plus, £18.99 a month for Google AI Pro and from £79.99 a month for Google AI Ultra. Most small businesses get the best value from the free plan or AI Pro.

Google has quietly turned Gemini into one of the most complete AI subscriptions on the market. It is not just a chatbot any more: the paid plans bundle extra Google storage, AI inside Gmail and Docs, video generation and research tools. That makes the price comparison harder, because you are not only paying for answers – you are also paying for storage you might already be buying separately. This guide explains Gemini pricing in the UK, plan by plan, and helps you decide which one is worth it for a small business.

Important: AI pricing and plan names change often. The figures below are taken from Google’s UK subscription page as of September 2026. Always confirm the price shown at checkout before you subscribe.

Google AI Pro£18.99 a month5 TBMost small business owners and freelancers
Google AI UltraFrom £79.99 a monthFrom 20 TBHeavy users of video, research and top-tier limits

Unlike ChatGPT and Claude, which bill in US dollars, Google lists Gemini consumer plans in pounds, so what you see on the UK page is what you pay each month.

Gemini Free: what you get for £0

The free version of Gemini is more generous than many people expect. With a normal Google account you get access to Google’s fast everyday model, limited access to the more capable Pro model, image generation, Gemini Live voice conversations, Canvas for drafting documents and code, Gems (saved custom assistants) and a taste of Deep Research. Storage stays at the standard 15 GB shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos.

For a sole trader who wants help rewording an email, summarising a PDF or brainstorming a product name a few times a week, the free plan is often enough. The limits show up when you use it heavily: longer research tasks, more capable model access and bigger file uploads are rationed.

Google AI Plus (£4.49 a month)

AI Plus is Google’s entry-level paid tier and one of the cheapest ways to get a paid AI plan in the UK. For £4.49 a month you get:

  • Roughly double the usage limits of the free plan
  • Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and other Google apps
  • Access to video generation
  • 200 monthly credits for Google Flow, Google’s AI video tool
  • More Audio Overviews in Google’s notebook tool
  • 400 GB of Google storage

The storage alone is a big part of the value. If you are already paying for extra Google One storage because your Gmail or Drive is full, AI Plus can replace that subscription and add AI on top. It is a sensible choice for a small business owner who lives in Gmail and wants help drafting replies and summarising long email threads without paying for a full premium plan.

Google AI Pro (£18.99 a month)

AI Pro is the plan most people mean when they talk about “Gemini Advanced”. It is priced to compete directly with ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, and it includes:

  • About four times the usage of the free plan
  • Full access to Google’s most capable Pro model
  • Deep Research and Deep Search for longer, cited research reports
  • Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids
  • 1,000 monthly Google Flow credits for video
  • Five times more Audio Overviews in the notebook tool
  • A YouTube Premium Lite plan
  • 5 TB of Google storage

For a small business that already runs on Google – Gmail for email, Drive for files, Docs for proposals – AI Pro is usually the best value paid plan. Deep Research is particularly useful for market research, competitor summaries and supplier comparisons, which would otherwise take hours of reading.

Is Google AI Pro worth it compared with ChatGPT Plus?

On price they are close. The difference is what surrounds the chatbot. ChatGPT Plus is stronger if you want the ChatGPT ecosystem of custom GPTs and its image tools; AI Pro is stronger if your work already lives in Google apps and you would value 5 TB of storage. If you are unsure, compare them on a real task from your own business – write the same client proposal or analyse the same spreadsheet in both free versions before paying for either. Our ChatGPT pricing UK guide covers the OpenAI side in detail.

Google AI Ultra (from £79.99 a month)

Ultra is Google’s top consumer tier. It starts at £79.99 a month, with an enhanced option at £189.99 a month, and includes up to twenty times the free plan’s usage, much larger Google Flow allowances for video, early access to experimental features, a full YouTube Premium individual plan and at least 20 TB of storage.

For almost every small business this is overkill. It makes sense for agencies and creators producing a lot of AI video, or for people who hit the AI Pro limits every week. If you are not sure whether you need it, you do not.

Gemini for business: Google Workspace

The plans above are consumer plans attached to a personal Google account. If your business uses Google Workspace – email on your own domain, shared drives and admin controls – Gemini features are delivered through your Workspace subscription instead, and the price depends on your Workspace edition. That route matters for two reasons:

  • Admin control. You can manage who has access and switch features on or off centrally.
  • Data handling. Workspace comes with business terms on how your data is used, which is important if staff will paste customer information into Gemini. Read our guide to using AI tools and UK GDPR before rolling it out.

If you are a one-person business using a personal Gmail address, a consumer plan is usually fine. Once you have staff handling customer data, it is worth moving to Workspace.

What small businesses actually use Gemini for

Before choosing a plan, it helps to picture the jobs Gemini would do each week. The most common ones we see in small businesses are:

  • Email triage. Summarising long Gmail threads and drafting polite replies to customers and suppliers.
  • Research. Using Deep Research to pull together a report on a new market, a competitor or a supplier shortlist, with sources you can check.
  • Documents. Turning rough notes into a proposal, a policy or a price list in Google Docs.
  • Spreadsheets. Explaining formulas, cleaning messy data and suggesting charts in Google Sheets.
  • Marketing. Drafting social posts, product descriptions and short promotional videos.

If most of your list is email and quick writing, the free plan or AI Plus will cover it. If research reports and heavy document work are on the list every week, AI Pro is where the time savings start to outweigh the cost.

How to save money on Gemini

  • Check what you already pay Google for. If you pay for Google One storage, upgrading to an AI plan may cost little extra, because the storage is included.
  • Look for trials. Google regularly offers free trial months on AI Pro to new subscribers; the offer shown on the subscription page changes over time.
  • Share the family plan where allowed. Some Google One plans can be shared with family members; check the current terms before relying on this for business use.
  • Start on the free plan. Use it for two weeks on real tasks. You will quickly see whether you hit the limits.
  • Cancel before renewal if it is not used. Put a reminder in your calendar a few days before your renewal date.

How to cancel a Gemini subscription

Gemini paid plans are managed through Google One. On a computer, open your Google One account, go to the membership or plan settings and choose to cancel or change your plan. If you subscribed through the Google Play Store on Android or through Apple on an iPhone, cancel through that store’s subscriptions page instead. Your access usually continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Want to clear your data too? See how to delete Gemini chats.
